The line graph demonstrates the number of cases of X diseases in Some land between 1983 and 1992.
In 1983 the number of cases was 100.
And then the number of cases increased steadily and reached 200 in 1987.
In 1988 the number of cases decreased to 100.
After that, the number of cases increased dramatically and reached a high point at 400 in 1989.
After that, the number of cases decreased to 350 in 1991.
And the number decreased dramatically to 0 in 1992.
It seemed that the disease was under controlled in 1992.
上面用了8句话来描述，要在40秒内说完很吃力，可能到后面十几秒的时候同学就会不经意地加快语速。这样会导致fluency前后不一致，并且sentence stress和intonation都不明显, 导致flattone，影响pronunciation的分数。
以上的表述主要的问题是：
1. 信息分散
一条线段的始末点和变化趋势不需要分开表达来过分强调。可以用这样的句式来简化： the number increased from A to B。这样既讲到了始末又讲到了趋势。
2. 不断重复同一主语
因为描述的主体只有一个, the number of cases of X disease，若后文提到number，指代的就是cases of X disease。所以主体只要在introduction sentence 完整地讲一次即可，其他地方简化成thenumber来指代。
3. 提到多个具体的时间点
PTE的图形很多涉及时间的比较, 但很多同学只要一讲到年份，语速变慢，且有读错重读的现象。建议大家总结时间规律，除了在introductionsentence 把时间区间的始末完整讲一遍以外，其他时候也用指代的方式，例如：overthe period given, in the first year, in the final year, in the first 5 years 等来表述。这样表达更加清晰，更符合口语的习惯。虽然不一定能在时间上省一两秒，但这样的表述更加顺口，可以提高流畅度。
上述的答案可以整合为5句话，大概35以内就可以描述完了：
(1) The line graph shows the number of cases of X diseases in Some land between 1983 and 1992.
(2) In the first 5 years, the number increased from 100 to 200.
(3) In the following years, the number decreased back to 100 before rising to a peak of 400 in 1989.
(4) And then the number decreased slightly to 350 in 1991 and then dramatically to 0 in the final year.
(5) It seemed that the disease was under control in 1992.
另外，很多同学把雅思wring task 1 的答题方法用在PTE的describe image 上，这并不太适合。因为雅思图表作文的评分标准对lexical 和grammar要求很高，必须使用复杂多变的词和句式来获得高分。而PTE的describe image只考核content，pronunciation和Oral fluency (其中后两者是更加重要)。所以不需要使用高上大的表述，甚至可以说用口语化的表达更佳。同学们不应结于作同意替换，用复杂的句式和纠正其他时态语法等问题，应该多花功夫把话讲得流利，讲得轻松。
最后一个问题就是不懂得取舍。 PTE 的image 类型很多变，除了常见的line graph，bar chart, pie chart, table外，还有各种雅思不常见的图形。而即使是同一个类别的图形，其复杂程度也会很不一样。以line graph 为例，出现的线条由1到5跳线不等。因此，若图表复杂，应大胆地舍弃一些细节，根据你的直觉，把最显著的特点讲出来即可。
